VA disability compensation rates

The monthly amounts VA pays at each disability rating, copied from VA's own rate tables. At 10% and 20%, VA pays one amount per rating. From 30% to 100%, find the rating along the top of a table and the family situation down the side; where they meet is VA's basic monthly rate for that rating and family situation.

2026 rates, effective December 1, 2025

10% and 20% ratings

At a 10% or 20% rating, the monthly payment is the same with or without a dependent spouse, child, or parent.

Monthly payment at a 10% or 20% rating, 2026 rates (monthly, U.S. dollars)
Disability ratingMonthly payment
10%$180.42
20%$356.66

30% to 100%: with a dependent spouse or parent, but no children

The first row of each table is the rate for a Veteran alone, with no dependents. When a spouse receives Aid and Attendance, VA adds the amount in the added amounts table to the basic monthly rate.

How to read the tables

  1. At a 10% or 20% rating, the first table gives the one monthly amount for each rating. Dependents do not change it.
  2. From 30% to 100%, pick the tables for the combined rating and for whether there are dependent children.
  3. In the basic monthly rates table, find the row for the family situation and the column for the rating. That amount is VA's basic monthly rate for that rating and family situation.
  4. For more than one child, or a spouse who receives Aid and Attendance, add the matching amounts from the added amounts table.

VA's own example, from its 2026 rates page: a Veteran with a 70% rating, a spouse who receives Aid and Attendance, and 3 children under 18. In the table Basic monthly rates, 70% to 100% rating, with children (30% to 100%: with dependents, including children), the row “With 1 child and spouse (no parents)” and the 70% column give $2,074.45. Each of the other 2 children adds $76.00, and the spouse's Aid and Attendance adds $141.00. The total is $2,367.45 a month.

When rates change

New rates take effect on December 1. VA's 2026 rates took effect December 1, 2025, and the past tables VA lists took effect December 1, 2024 (opens in new tab), December 1, 2023 (opens in new tab), and December 1, 2022 (opens in new tab). Under federal law, VA's cost-of-living adjustment to compensation is the same percentage as the one for Social Security benefits.

Special monthly compensation, a higher rate VA pays to some Veterans, spouses, surviving spouses, and parents with certain needs or disabilities, has its own tables on VA's special monthly compensation rate page (opens in new tab).
